“Love Your Home” Design Challenge Winner 1: Bathroom Remodel & Laundry Room Renovation
At a recent Northshore Magazine event, held on April 4th at Landry and Arcari in Salem, MA, several readers who were faced with challenging spaces in their homes, were the fortunate winners of free design solutions from North Shore home design experts. After many readers submitted photos of rooms that were not working for them, along with a “fix this” wish list, three specific challenges were selected to be solved by Howell Custom Building Group, Sue Adams Interiors, Landry and Arcari Oriental Rugs and Carpeting, Lucia Lighting and Design, and Designer Bath. The three challenges were chosen based on the idea that other homeowners might have similar projects that are not moving forward because they also are in need of a combination of both professional insight and product recommendations..
The first winner’s challenge was to reconfigure her second floor space which included two full baths, a utility closet and a master bedroom closet. In her words: “We don’t need a second full bath. Therefore I’d like to reduce it to a small half bath and rework this space to either enlarge the master bedroom closet or get space for my washer and dryer, which is currently in the basement. At the same time, I want to update these areas with new fixtures and a walk-in tile shower in the masterbath.”
The first step in the virtual re-design process was for us to visit the site. After taking measurements of existing conditions, our draftsmen went back to the drawing board and executed 2 and 3-dimensional floor plans of the newly defined . Floor plans were created with the help of interior designer, Sue Adams, who suggested improvements to the space along with selecting new fixtures from Designer Bath with the help of showroom consultant Mindy Sevinor-Feinberg.
In the Master Bath we suggested :
- Moving the wall behind the toilet to relocate it and give it more privacy
- A curbless shower to create the illusion of more space and cleaner lines
- A curved, furniture style vanity
- A Total Sense steam shower from Steamist with multiple showerheads and a clear glass wall with a tile mural. Just a few of the benefits of steam shower therapy include: relief for allergy sufferers, the alleviation of joint pain, and improved circulation.
In the Second Bath we:
- Removed the tub in the half bath and replaced it with a stackable washer/dryer and folding counter with cabinets
- Replaced the door with a space saving pocket door
- Replaced the vanity with a pedestal style sink.
